The Aga Khan University (AKU) is partnering with the University of California, San Francisco’s Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research – a globally well-known centre for regenerative medicine and stem cell research – to set up the University’s Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research.

The Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (CRMSCR), with planned    state-of-the-art facilities that can house 100+ scientists and staff, will undertake cutting edge research on stem cell and regenerative medicine on non-communicable diseases prevalent in the developing world; nurture the next generation of researchers and clinicians; and create a multidisciplinary collaborative environment that encourages innovation.

CRMSCR is inviting applications from outstanding and ambitious candidates with a track record in regenerative medicine and stem cell science.

Responsibilities

Associate Professors and Assistant Professors will provide services in the areas of research, education and scholarship, funding applications, health and safety, ethics and other duties. Professors will be reporting to the Director, CRM.

Responsibilities:
  • expand his/her current area of research in regenerative medicine and stem cell biology
  • work in a team of researchers including post-docs, clinical fellows and PhD students
  • develop and submit extramural grant proposals
  • develop and foster multi-disciplinary collaboration with faculty from across AKU and UCSF
  • engage and assist in developing specific modules/courses for graduate students in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine
  • oversee and manage his or her team, managing research, ensuring thesis development and publications, procuring funding and budget availability, and maintaining compliance to laboratory and ethical protocols
  • create regular progress reports and present to the Director CRM and UCSF at periodic intervals, including a quinquennial review to an international committee
  • develop and foster a sustained scientific collaboration with colleagues at UCSF.

Requirements

Applicants must:
  • have a PhD in the relevant subject area
  • be research active
  • have extensive first hand laboratory experience
  • have experience of supervising graduate students, post-docs and fellows
  • have published in journals of international repute
  • have good communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English.
Applicants for Associate Professor should have a track record of extra mural grant funding.
Selected candidates will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, which will collectively build critical capacity in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. Applicants will be expected to develop collaborations with faculty across the different disciplines at AKU and UCSF.

The Umeed-e-Nau (UeN) initiative of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Women and Child Health aims to support the introduction, scale up and further piloting of high quality and high impact interventions to improve Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (MNCAH) in Pakistan by harnessing the potential of both public and private sectors, coupled with introduction of women and girls empowerment interventions. UeN has two major components; one is to introduce proven effective MNCAH interventions at scale in 14 districts and the second is generate evidence on innovative approaches to improve MNCAH while included in the public health programme in Pakistan.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the supervision of overall quality control and assurance of data for all field sites and will be the contact person for all the data related issues. Specific responsibilities include to:
  • recommend modifications and reconfigure databases to ensure the optimal storage of data and minimize data entry complexities
  • conduct training sessions of staff for data entry and data capturing
  • write queries and codes using various programming languages to generate quality control checks
  • conduct site visits to assess the adherence to data management standards and quality assurance of data
  • conduct data audits, compile results, analyze and summarize audit findings, and recommend changes where needed
  • participate in project meetings and propose recommendations for procedural modifications and development related to data management, quality control and assurance
  • prepare and disseminate periodical reports for progress of assigned projects and identify and remove bottlenecks to ensure smooth data entry
  • respond to data related queries received from the concerned regarding relevant project issues and procedures.
  • supervise data entry of collected forms from various sources such as data documents, electronic data entry systems, and hand held devices.

Requirements

You should have:
  • Masters/BS(Hons.) degree in Computer Science.
  • at least three years experience of Asp.Net, SQL, JavaScript, GIS, HTML/CSS, Bootstrap preferably in any reputable healthcare or research organization
  • excellent command over use of Webapi, google maps, JSChart and MIS development programming languages like C# and other software like SQL
  • strong analytical, qualitative and research writing skills
  • resilience and ability to cope up with work pressure and meet stringent deadlines
  • ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently
  • willing to travel within and outside Karachi on need basis.
